Wedding Rings: Portrays true love

Wedding rings symbolize the beauty of marriage between the bridegroom and his bride. These rings portray the essence of love between two hearts. It shows the love to the world. The wedding ring signifies commitment and loyalty to a marital partner and it is generally worn by women, but due to the rise in popularity of various metals for wedding rings, men are now fast approaching acceptance of wearing a ring also.

Wedding rings complement all styles of jewelry pieces and any clothes that you wear. They present a beautiful picture of unity and eternal love. Wedding rings made of white gold; yellow gold, platinum and silver have become the most popular choices for today’s couples. Sometimes wedding rings are made with non-precious metals such as stainless steel, titanium, zirconium and tungsten. These non-precious metals rings are often inlaid with precious metals and diamonds to enhance their appeal.

A wedding ring or wedding band is, as a rule, worn on the fourth finger (thumb included) of the left hand in many parts of the world. The reason being that it is a belief that the Latin name "vena amoris" or "vein of love" ran directly from the heart to this finger. Other parts of the world wear the wedding ring on the right hand (eg. Russia, Chile, Poland, Germany to name but a few). The main aim of wearing wedding ring is to glitter the love forever.

The tradition of wearing wedding rings can be traced back to Egypt. To the Egyptians, the unending circle of a ring was a symbol of eternity and undying love. The early Romans exchanged iron rings as a public pledge of betrothal and by the second century AD were using gold rings. Because of the close links between Roman civilization and early Christianity, the custom of giving rings as a token of love and fidelity was adopted by Christians and the practice carried on through mediaeval times to the present day. Early wedding rings were worn on the thumb. Later Christian influence and belief in the Trinity started the custom of placing the new ring in turn on each of the first three fingers of the left hand to represent the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, before it was finally left on the third finger. Another legend, from Ancient Egypt, says that a nerve and vein go from that finger straight to the heart. Some people still say that the ring stops love leaking out through this ‘heart vein'! In fact it gives wings to love.

It has been observed that on many occasions, spouses sport the wedding rings, include them in their respective chains around their necks. Contrary to conventional wedding customs, when the ring was worn only by the bride, currently both the bride and the groom sport wedding rings. Although, there was no evidence to the origin of such practice, it never really became popular at that time. Presently men wedding rings have caught the imagination of everyone. Men’s wedding rings are usually in the form of simple wide bands or rings unlike women’s wedding rings, which sport diamonds and gems. But nowadays men’s wedding rings also come with high quality diamonds, gemstones and metals. These wedding rings are categorized as gold wedding rings, diamond wedding rings, white gold wedding rings, two tone wedding rings, titanium wedding rings and Celtic wedding rings. Women’s wedding rings have always been popular and the latest trends can floor you at first.

To end with, it can be said that wedding rings have become as important as marriage. It’s truly a symbol of couples love.
